secondary reminiscence (2024)
The project ‘Secondary Reminiscence’ is in many ways a therapeutic output whilst, simultaneously, raising questions: How does the home function as a weapon of control? And how does an image represent, and in some cases, alter a history?
The images in the series were made both in the hamlet my mother grew up in and our family home. Traces of my mother’s personal belongings, from her life before I was born, have been erased from the images as though to mirror her life through my eyes, removing things I can’t recall. I explore the fragility of familial bonds and confront the fear of losing loved ones, whilst absorbing her memories, experiences and feelings of a life lived.
